Basics of Website Positioning
Having a website, even professionally done graphically and substantively, will be of no avail if nobody visits it. For your site to be visited frequently, it must be properly promoted on the internet. There are many methods of online advertising. One of them and probably the most effective is positioning of websites in search engines.Website positioning involves performing appropriate actions aimed at placing your website in high positions in search engines for the appropriate key words or phrases (words or phrases that a potential internet user enters in the search engine). In the course below you will learn the basics of website positioning. The topic is so extensive that it is impossible to describe everything. Even writing a book on this topic is pointless, because effective positioning techniques are constantly changing as search engine algorithms change. Positioning can be simplified into two parts. The first treatment is site optimization, and the second is building Link Popularity so-called BL. Link Popularity is nothing else but links to your site on other sites.
Website optimization consists of such changes in the code and content of the website that it is easily and effectively indexed by search engine robots. The page code should be properly written, well if it complies with w3.org standards. Listed and described below are the most important tags that are considered by search engines. The page title is the most important tag in the head section of the page in terms of SEO (SEO- Search engine optimization- another name for positioning). It should contain positioned words and / or phrases. The worst thing you can do is insert a website address in the title. e.g. “Superstrona.pl – great page about me” . This title is bad. It does not contain any potential keywords that the internet user can enter in the search engine.
One of the few meta tags relevant for positioning. Good when it contains keywords. Description, however, is also a description of the page that appears in most search engines, so it should also encourage an Internet user to visit the site.
A meta tag that has not been taken into account by the search engine algorithm for several years. I recommend, however, to devote a moment of time and conscientiously writing it, because many small search engines, e.g. in website catalogs, draw data from it. This meta tag is also often treated by search engines as page text, so you should not forget about it. It should not be too long and it is not recommended to repeat the same keywords.
These are page headers. Starting from h1- the most important, to less and less important ones. It is a good idea not to repeat the h1 header more than once per page. By default, the letter sizes are set from h1 largest to successively smaller, but this can be edited using styles – but you should do it wisely, in the end this tag is used to indicate the headings of given parts of the text. These meta tags should contain keywords, but they should be incorporated into logical sentences .
These tags are used to highlight some text on the page. Of course, it’s best to highlight our keywords . Search engines most often take these tags into account. Alt is the “text of the image” ie it tells the search engine what the image is about. This text should be logical and contain keywords.
Generally, there is a rule that every subpage of the website should be available top in two clicks from the main page. Search engine robots jump from link to link, which is why placing subpages deeper in the site significantly slows down the indexation of the site. The site map also plays an important role. This is a subpage containing links to each subpage of the website. This significantly speeds up indexation. It should also be remembered that each sitelink should contain the appropriate key anchor text that we position the given subpage. So if we want to position the sub-page for the phrase ” Opel cars “, then the link should look like this:
Texts on the page
The texts on the page should be logical. This is the first and most important rule. The second important thing is to create text on the page so that it contains keywords. Preferably they should be at the beginning of the text.
This is a key and essential part of website positioning in the search engine. While a well-optimized page is scarcely high in search results, a page heavily linked in search results is almost always. Almost, because there will be exceptions to each rule. A great example of how links can be positioned without any interference is the position of our President Lech Kaczynski’s website on the phrase bird flu . Most interestingly, there is not even a word about bird flu on the site. There are quite a few links from other sites with anchor text “Bird Flu”. Just such a protest of a Polish group of positioners against the presidency of Lech Kaczynski.
Returning, however, to Link Popularity itself – the recipe is simple so that your site is high in search results, it must lead to it as many links from other, preferably valuable sites with the anchor text that we want to position. The number of links is not always the way to success, quality is often more important than quantity. So what links are valuable? There are many factors that determine the quality of links. Once, the main determinant of link quality was his Page Rank. For some time, however, this indicator has ceased to be authoritative, and even sometimes becomes misleading (in recent times, non-valuable sites were undergoing high PR5). Currently, a link vendor is an affordable tool for checking the value of another website . It can be used to check how many BackLinks a given page contains, what PR these pages have, how many domains and IP addresses are links and what anchor texts are leading. This tool also sets something like “.
LinkStrength” is the strength of the link, but this parameter is only the individual scale of this tool and let’s not suggest it too much, just like the average grade. Of course, the more links lead to the site where we want to put our link, the better. The number of outgoing links on a given page is also important, the more links there are, the weaker the link strength is. You should also check whether the author does not insert in the head part of the meta tag ordering the search engine robot not to pay attention to the links on the page. This tag looks like this: The rel = “nofolow” attribute attached to a link works the same , that is, a link looking from the html code page like this:Also, do not apply for links from pornographic, warez websites, or from pages based on frames or a site that does not have its own address, just an alias for example. The value of such links is minimal, and there are opinions that are harmful (in the case of pornography and warezu).
A thorough study of the site’s value is a lot more work and time-consuming, but for starters, the way I gave you enough, in time you will know how to examine the value of the site. Ok, we already know how to check if a given website is valuable, now we come to the heart of the matter – how to get links on other pages? There are many ways. The more sophisticated and clever – the more secret. In general, however, there are a few basic options for getting links to your site:Usually, the first process is adding links to website directories, i.e. pages that are collections of websites organized into relevant thematic categories.
Placing links on another, own website – you know you have other websites, you put links to your pages there, in time you will have to be interested in passwords linking between websites and facilities exchange with other websites, preferably with the same or similar themes, in time you will understand why it is important to link from themed pages .
Link exchange should ideally not involve the exchange of:
page A links to page B page B links to page A.
This weakens the power of the link, better as a replacement consists, for example, of:
page A links to page B page B links to page C where the owners of pages A and C are one person.
buying links – links can be bought on other websites, such as allegro , personally do not use this method, because it is too expensive.
link exchange systems – a topic so extensive that I described it elsewhere, more info here. Since you know how to get links, remember one thing, the increase in links to the page must be even, systematic and not too rapid. This means that adding one day, e.g. 100 links and then for a week no one threatens the search filter for a given phrase, i.e. even though you will have a lot of links – you won’t have a high position until you leave the filter. Remember to add links with different anchors, especially at the beginning.
A young website without aging in Google is particularly vulnerable to all search engine filters, over time, the likelihood of catching a filter is getting smaller. Therefore, as, for example, you position the phrase holidays, the anchor can not be just “holidays” , because it is terrifying with a filter, the best way to add at the beginning, for example:
“Vacation” “vacation at the seaside”
“successful vacation” etc, of course, the most links should be obtained with the anchor “vacation”.
This whole guide is just the most important aspects of positioning, remember, after reading this guide, you are no longer an SEO master, professional website positioning means continuous learning, gathering experience and continuous extension of facilities, however, the tips I wrote above will help you set your site not very popular and competitive terms at the top of search results, and with a little patience and enthusiasm, you’ll be able to position increasingly difficult phrases.
